UMEED is an ongoing maiden over under the Rs 13,000-crore Garib Samruddhi Yojana of the Gujarat government which aims to achieve sustained reduction in the vulnerability and poverty of the poor. The program provides job training and written text to youth from vulnerable families across Gujarat. Implementation of the UMMEED in Ahmedabad has been instead unique due to strong suppor t of the local NGOs. just its coverage is ! very limited as it has not think up the basic livelihood issue of the larger section of urban poor.
