Kony was born c. 1961[1] in Odek, a settlement east of Gulu in northern Uganda.[2][4] He is a member of the Acholi people.[2] The son of farmers, he enjoyed a good relationship with his siblings, but was quick to penalize in a dispute,[9] and when confronted he would often resort to physical violence.
